Car Magnets Available - In community outreach and education efforts, the Cornelius Animal Shelter is focusing on spreading the word of how important it is to spay, neuter and adopt. Magnets sell for $5 and can be purchased at the front desk of the Cornelius Town Hall, located on Catawba Avenue or at the Cornelius Police Dept. Headquarters reception desk. Magnets are also available at Lake Cross Veterinary Clinic, North Mecklenburg Animal Hospital and Huntersville Animal Care Hospital.
Our Current Shelter
The current shelter is operated by officer Kenny Russell and a group of loving volunteers who feed, water, walk, and love the dogs and cats of the shelter. Because the shelter is in a locked lot, volunteer access is only available for 1 hour a day.
New Facility
Plans have been drawn up for a new shelter building in the same location with a new fully enclosed fence, parking lot, landscaping, dog runs, socialization and play rooms, and a lobby. Not to mention indoor plumbing!
Most importantly, it will be open to volunteers and visitors during regular hours every day, giving the dogs and cats plenty more chances to get out of the kennels, stretch their legs, get some cuddles, and get adopted!
